Midtown Review: Brunch at La Tavola
Tuesday, November 23, 2010
0
Since I recently discovered that Atlanta is a brunch city, I decided to try out La Tavola for brunch this past Sunday morning. I'll start out by saying I am not a "brunch" kind of girl... or a breakfast kind of girl for that matter. I never ate breakfast growing up and considering it is the "most important meal of the day", let's just say it didn't make my mom too happy. She couldn't understand why I could go to lunch time without eating. It wasn't that I wasn't hungry, it was just that breakfast food never appetized me that much. So brunch for me is something new and definitely something I could write off and quit doing if I'm not satisfied. But I decided to try out brunch at La Tavola in Virginia Highlands this past weekend. La Tavola is nestled in the heart of Virginia Highlands (one of my favorite parts of the city). Steps away from the hustle and bustle of Midtown, Virginia Highlands provides that small town feel with small town coffee shops and great restaurants. We sat outside on La Tavola's back patio which overlooks the lush greenscape and I almost forgot I was only 2 miles from Peachtree Street. I ordered the Housemade Challah French Toast with seasonal fruit and honey mascarpone.
My friend Christa was more in the mood for lunch so she ordered the Bruschetta with marinated tomatoes, spicy ricotta with an arugula salad for an appetizer and the Grilled Chicken panini with pesto, tomato, fontina cheese and a zucchini and tomato salad.

I was tempted to order lunch since breakfast has never been my meal of choice, but I decided I would go out on a limb. The menu has sooo many incredible options to choose from and I found it extremely hard to make a decision. I found myself struggling between their Pork Milanese with breaded pork scallopine, arugula-tomato salad, poached eggs, and the Chicken Sausage with potato, leeks, poached eggs and a spicy cherry pepper chutney, but I ultimately decided on the French Toast. I couldn't have been more satisfied with my decision. The french toast was incredible... seriously incredible. It wasn't overly sweet but perfectly sweetened with some fresh fruit and honey mascarpone to compliment it. I also got a side of eggs and bacon which were equally as tasteful. The side of applewood smoked bacon was huge and sadly I ate it all (it was that good)!
My friend loved the bruschetta and the grilled panini. She kept saying "I'm full, I can't eat anymore", only to find her sneakily taking another bite. Everything was amazing from the service to the atmosphere to the food. So if you want to enjoy a city brunch while also enjoying the simpleness and small town atmosphere that is Virginia Highlands, come on over to La Tavola. They just might have made breakfast my favorite meal of the day :)

Order Your Holiday Gifts From The Shepherd Center's "Pecans on Peachtree"
I came across this great holiday fundraising event sponsored by the Shepherd Center called "Pecans on Peachtree." Since someone I care about deeply is currently staying at the Shepherd Center, I have been looking for ways that myself and everyone can support the center. Since many of you all (and your offices) often order holiday gifts for friends, business connections, etc., I wanted to offer up these "Pecans on Peachtree" as an alternative this year to your traditional gifts that you have given in the past.
Pecans on Peachtree is a beloved holiday fundraising event sponsored by the Auxiliary of Shepherd Center, a private, not-for-profit hospital specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain and other neuromuscular disorders.
For nearly three decades, Pecans on Peachtree has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help fund patient-related programs at Shepherd Center through annual holiday sales of delicious pecans, most grown right here in the state of Georgia.
Founded in 1975, Shepherd Center is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 10 rehabilitation hospitals in the nation. Shepherd Center is a 132-bed facility. Last year Shepherd admitted 947 people to its inpatient programs and 538 people to its day patient programs. In addition, Shepherd sees more than 6,000 people annually on an outpatient basis.
You can view all their products HERE (and they are all delicious! Yes, I have tried them!)
So I encourage you to order your holiday gifts this year while also contributing to an amazing center that is truly changing peoples lives!

Yes, I went over to Marlow's Tavern to try out these truffle fries last week and they are amazing (especially paired with a cold draft beer)! Unfortunately you will have to say the horrible code word of "Roll Tide" to get these free truffle fries. I expect your fingers to be crossed behind your back since I know you won't mean it.... haha (war eagle :) )

Pacci Ristorante Helps Furry Friends Find a Home
PACCI RISTORANTE HOSTS “HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS” EVENT FOR THE ATLANTA HUMANE SOCIETY
Pacci Ristorante, a Kimpton Restaurant, is hosting a “Home for the Holidays” pet adoption party for the Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) on Saturday, November 13. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the AHS adoption bus (holding several lovable animals in need of a new home) will be parked in front of the Midtown restaurant. Event attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch and interact with the adoptable pups both on the bus and upstairs at AltoRex Rooftop Lounge.
“We are so excited to be partnering with the Atlanta Humane Society again,” says Pacci Ristorante Executive Chef Keira Moritz. “This organization does so much for the city’s pet population, and we feel honored to host this event,” she adds.
AHS has always been a cause that is close to Chef Moritz’s heart, as she is the happy owner of an adorable Border collie named Magnolia. As part of the adoption party, Moritz will be grilling out at AltoRex and offering $5 lunches that include a hamburger, chips and a can of soda or bottled water. All lunch proceeds will go directly to AHS. There will also be coffee, hot chocolate and apple cider available. For those guests interested in bringing their four-legged friends, Pacci will provide water and “Pacci Pups” (Chef Moritz’s famous homemade dog biscuits) for all.
In addition to hosting “Home for the Holidays,” Pacci is sponsoring three different AHS pups during the months of October, November and December. The restaurant will be taking care of the adoption fees for those who would like to give these three featured furry friends a loving home. October’s Pacci-sponsored pooch has already been snatched up, but November’s adoptee is ready to find some friendly owners.
