After getting this week's edition of "The Dish" (a weekly newsletter of updates and happenings in food and drink by Melissa Libby PR) I noticed some great segments featured on some of my favorite Midtown restaurants. I really admire this newsletter as it always gives me the best information to all the top events and restaurants in Atlanta. What's cooking this week?

SOUP'S ON! ENJOY A DIFFERENT KIND EACH DAY OF NATIONAL SOUP MONTH AT ATLANTA'S "SOUPER" RESTAURANTS

Stash the soup cans in the pantry, National Soup Month calls for downing as many different bowls of comfort as you can at area restaurants. Hot soup foils winter weather as you sink that spoon in, slurp up its steamy goodness and sop up every flavor-infused drop. Soup is a savory way to pack more veggies in your day, it's easy on the budget and it fills you up, leaving room enough for dessert, of course! Super local bowls to try:

EVOS Feel Great Fast Food offers a veggie chili (with beans) that is sure to soothe the soul and the body! This low-fat chili is made with hearty vegetables and fresh vegetable stock. Grab a regular or large size bowl to warm up with on those winter days.

South City Kitchen Midtown doles out countless bowls of their Old Charleston she-crab soup. You can almost taste the sunshine of a coastal Lowcountry day in every spoonful.

Ecco takes the lowly turnip and transforms it into creamy turnip soup with candied pancetta that's worthy of royalty.

Order smoky tomato soup at Noon Midtown by the cup or bowl and pair it with Noon's "grilled cheese of the week" or three-cheese panino for a twist on the idyllic winter combo. A bowl of soup and a small green salad keep a healthy red and green theme going throughout the cold season.

Tart crème fraîche contrasts swimmingly with velvety lobster and butternut squash bisque at Pacci Ristorante.

Soup is a traditional accompaniment to a meal of sushi or sashimi, even when the menu has RA Sushi's modern outlook. RA Sushi's miso soup combines tofu, seaweed and green onions in a miso broth; spicy "Miso Hot!" adds shiitake mushrooms, bok choy and shrimp to the mix. Potsticker soup bubbles with pork potstickers, snow peas, bok choy, carrots and green onions in chicken broth. Nabeyaki Udon casts tempura shrimp, crab and scallops together in a savory seafood broth.

Spice Market blends soups as vibrant as the exotic Far Eastern markets that inspire their creation. Ginger pumpkin seeds add a delicate bite to butternut squash soup while chicken and coconut milk soup is soothingly filling.

Laden with chili-roasted chicken, cheddar, tomatoes and a sprinkling of crispy tortilla strips, the chicken queso soup at Marlow's Tavern offers a spicy, spoonable alternative to a plate of nachos. Since Marlow's Tavern has six locations around town, you're never more than a short drive from this fiesta in a bowl!

If she likes old and he likes new, Studio 887 in the historic King Plow Arts Center in Midtown fills both wish lists with its old brick, artsy atmosphere and contemporary cuisine. Executive Chef Todd Annis of Bold American®, Fifth Group Restaurants'® award-winning catering division, marries fine American and European cuisine with contemporary flair to create menus with which to fall in love. Variety is the spice at Fifth Group Restaurants®. In the heart of Midtown, Ecco offers seasonal, European-inspired cuisine, a private dining room for up to 60 guests and a patio for up to 75. South City Kitchen Vinings serves contemporary Southern cuisine and has a small, semi-private dining area for up to 35 and a main dining room that seats up to 66 guests. Dressy Italian calls for Pacci Ristorante, Atlanta's only authentic Italian steakhouse. Pacci has a semi-private room for up to eight guests as well as chic outdoor space options atop the restaurant in AltoRex Rooftop Lounge.
